Currently, the tobacco segment materials of HNB cigarettes mainly include granular (or block), traditional tobacco and reconstituted tobacco.
There are two main methods for preparing granular (or block) tobacco segment materials: one is to ultrafinely grind tobacco raw materials (generally 60-300 meshes) and prepare granular or block tobacco segment materials through a certain process; the other is to extract, concentrate and dry tobacco raw materials with ethanol solution or other solutions to obtain tobacco solid extracts, mix the solid tobacco extracts with metal hydroxide particles with flame retardant effects, and then dry them to prepare granular or sheet tobacco segment materials; but since the granular or block tobacco segment materials have a large suction resistance, they have a certain impact on the stability of smoke, so how to improve their smoking stability is an urgent problem to be solved.
There are also related reports on the study of traditional tobacco as tobacco segment materials for HNB cigarettes, but due to the low ability of tobacco to load smoke-generating agents, the aroma and nicotine release effects are not ideal under low-temperature heating.
Therefore, traditional tobacco is generally mixed with reconstituted tobacco leaves as tobacco segment materials for HNB cigarettes, or traditional tobacco is specially treated to improve its sensory quality and smoking effect as tobacco segment materials. Compared with granular and traditional tobacco as tobacco segment materials, reconstituted tobacco leaves have the characteristics of strong plasticity, homogenization and high controllability while maintaining the effective ingredients of natural tobacco leaves. Therefore, it is the main tobacco segment material for the current mainstream HNB cigarettes.
