Nicotine replacement therapy, NRT is a type of medicine that delivers nicotine to the brain through nasal and oral sprays and inhalers.
Our purpose of using zero-nicotine nebulization is to replace the nicotine that smokers usually get from cigarettes, so the desire to smoke is reduced, and it can help people who want to quit smoking have a chance to quit smoking, so that they can stop smoking completely.
The review included 63 trials involving 41,509 participants. All studies were conducted in people who wanted to stop smoking, and most were conducted in adults. People in the studies usually smoked at least 15 cigarettes a day at the start of the study. The studies lasted at least six months.
Using nicotine replacement therapy with nasal and oral sprays and inhalers together with another NRT (such as gum or lozenges) increased the chances of successfully quitting by 15% to 36% compared with using one NRT alone.
Successful quitting was also more likely if high-dose nicotine patches (containing 25mg (worn for more than 16 hours) or 21mg (worn for more than 24 hours) nicotine compared with 15mg (worn for more than 16 hours) or 14mg (worn for more than 24 hours)) or high-dose nicotine gum (containing 4mg nicotine instead of 2mg nicotine) were used.
Using NRT both before and after your quit day may help more people quit than using it only after your quit day, but more evidence is needed to strengthen this conclusion. However, people who smoke are just as likely to quit successfully whether they use the nicotine patch or another type of NRT such as gum, lozenges or nasal sprays.
