CBD (cannabidiol), an important cannabinoid component of the cannabis plant, is a pharmacologically broad-spectrum drug that has attracted increasing attention in recent years as a treatment for a range of neuropsychiatric disorders. The potential of CBD as a treatment for depression-related disorders was determined by evaluating evidence from preclinical, human, clinical, and epidemiological studies. The researchers found that the existing preclinical evidence strongly supports CBD as a treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder when administered acutely; although the therapeutic effects of chronic CBD dosing in clinical populations require further study.

Some experts said, "The human endocannabinoid system manages a large number of body functions, including appetite, memory, sleep, mood and pain. Various components in cannabis can bind to the CB1 receptor and CB2 receptor of the endocannabinoid system, which can reduce stress, relieve anxiety, and regulate stress response. The most important thing is that CBD activates the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system and has anti-anxiety and antidepressant effects. CBD enhances serotonin and glutamate cortical signals through a 5-HT1A receptor-dependent mechanism, exerting an antidepressant effect."
